For new American operators, the use of agents and distributors, particularly those with prior experience in distributing imported products is highly recommended.  Local agents have market knowledge and contacts to develop a customer base and can easily communicate in Malagasy and/or French.  The American Chamber of Commerce could also provide advice.  The Embassy recommends that U.S. firms visit Madagascar and negotiate a distribution contract face-to-face in order to develop the personal relationships that facilitate doing business in the country.
