Until 2017, there were few to no known reports of intellectual property cases in The Gambia, largely due to a lack of in-country experts in the field.  However, in June 2018, Gambian police officers were provided with training on the enforcement of copyright laws, after the prosecution of two males for copyright infringement and complaints to the IP authorities by entertainment artists who reported copyright infringement crimes being committed in The Gambia.
