  • Standards: The Bahamian government has recently established a standards bureau and accepts most international packaging requirements. National standards are under development and expected to match the standards found in developed international markets.

  • Price: Price is among the most important selling factor for some in The Bahamas. An important consideration for U.S. exporters is to consider margins after inclusion of shipping, freight, insurance as well as customs duties to prices. A value added tax of 7.5% on both goods and services was imposed on January 1, 2015.

  • U.S. Products preferred: U.S products are generally preferred based on quality, technology, reliability, availability as well as the pervasive marketing in the country. A distinct advantage is available for U.S. firms that are able to provide guarantees and after-market support in the jurisdiction.  However, there is increasing competition for consumer products being imported from China.
