Discusses opportunities for U.S. franchisers and legal requirements in the market.
Last Published: 6/17/2019

The Turkish National Franchising Association, Ulusal Franchising Dernegi (UFRAD), a member of the International Franchising Association (IFA), is traditionally the first point of contact for new market entrants and is an excellent meeting point for prospective franchisers and franchisees.  While franchising has experienced significantly strong growth in Turkey, a recent weakening of the Turkish economy and thus of consumer demand, coupled with a highly saturated market could mean significant challenges for new entrants.  Foreign franchises in Turkey tend to be concentrated in fast food restaurant and apparel concepts, but other business types are increasingly represented as well.

The IFA, headquartered in Washington, D.C., has been active in Turkey, often partnering with UFRAD to organize visits by U.S. franchisors.  Furthermore, most large U.S. accounting/auditing/consulting firms, many U.S. banks, and several U.S. law firms also have offices in Turkey to assist American firms interested in the Turkish market.
