Overview
Slovenia’s chemical and pharmaceutical sectors are among the country’s most successful enterprises, thanks to the industry’s long tradition in this part of Europe.  Production is substantial and requires consistent supplies of raw materials.  Approximately 546 companies are active in the pharmaceutical sector, although only 33 actually manufacture pharmaceutical products.  Pharmaceuticals account for most of the sector’s exports, followed by vehicle tires, inner tubes, and plastics.  The most important pharmaceutical companies are Lek and Krka, both of which manufacture generic pharmaceutical products.
