Chad - PricingChad - Pricing
Prices in Chad are high. International and domestic transportation costs, scarcity, and sales taxes contribute to high prices. Goods imported to Chad are subject to a universal 18 percent value-added-tax (VAT), two percent statistical tax, and additional excise taxes of up to 100 percent, depending on the classification of the goods.
Aside from western-style shops in N’Djamena, prices are not normally set. As in many African countries, informal retailers normally present an exorbitant price and eventually reduce it during spirited bargaining with the buyer.
