There are no prohibitions on importing or exporting foreign currency beyond statutory declaration requirements.  Some companies reported problems related to delays in gaining access to foreign currency.  Firms seeking to convert Guyana dollars to U.S. dollars may sometimes have to wait for varying periods of time while their local bank makes U.S. dollars available.  Bank inefficiencies and an underdeveloped inter-bank trading system create these delays.  Firms are advised to develop business relationships with multiple banks in order to maintain alternative avenues for currency exchange.
